A retreat for artists, makers, and curious minds
During the retreat, participants will explore a variety of artistic techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment, with a focus on slowing down and developing ideas at an enjoyable pace. Morning lessons take place from 9:00–11:00, followed by a break, with a second session from 11:30–13:00. Afternoons are left open for independent studio time, rest, or discovering the beautiful landscapes and villages of Abruzzo. Throughout the retreat, we will travel by car to selected locations where we can sit, relax, sketch on location, and gather inspiration from the surrounding environment. These sketches and observations will then become source material for further development back in the studio.

Classes are tutored by Colleen Corradi Brannigan, practising artist and owner of Dedalo. Apart from learning printmaking techniques, you will also develop observational sketching skills and learn how to collect visual information directly from the surrounding landscape, architecture, and atmosphere of each location we visit. Through on-site drawing, note-taking, composition studies, and experimentation, you will build a personal visual archive that can later be translated into prints and studio-based work. The retreat encourages a slower, more attentive way of seeing, helping participants strengthen both technical skills and creative confidence.

During the retreat, participants will take part in a series of excursions designed to inspire observation, drawing, and creative research. We will visit the archaeological museum in Chieti, where we will spend time sketching artifacts from the Italic period and learning about the famous Warrior of Capestrano.
One day will be dedicated to visiting Rocca Calascio, where we will sketch the dramatic ruins and surrounding mountain landscape on location. We will also explore Bominaco, home to its mysterious and beautifully preserved church filled with medieval symbolism and atmosphere.
Another excursion will take us to the stunning Costa dei Trabocchi, where participants can sketch the historic fishing structures known as trabocchi while experiencing the Adriatic coastline. The retreat will also include an evening in Pescara for shopping, aperitivo, and relaxed bar hopping, offering time to enjoy the local culture and social atmosphere alongside the creative program.
