This immersive course explores the creative possibilities of Pronto Plate lithography, mixed-media printmaking, cyanotype, handmade papermaking, and bookbinding, all within a non-toxic working environment. Designed primarily for artists with previous printmaking experience, the course also welcomes beginners, with guidance and activities adapted to different skill levels so that everyone can develop their practice with confidence.

Participants will explore the versatility of Pronto Plate, using non-toxic materials. The course also introduces cyanotype techniques applied to printmaking, encouraging experimentation with layers, textures, and imagery in combination with Pronto Plate.

A central part of the experience is making your own paper from scratch, creating unique sheets that can be used as a surface for your prints. Building on this process, we will explore bookbinding with your handmade paper and printed works, bringing individual sheets together to create unique artist books and personal book forms.

Through practical workshops, demonstrations, and guided projects, you will expand your technical skills while discovering new ways to combine printmaking, paper, and book arts. The course offers space for experimentation, creative exchange, and the development of your own artistic language.

Programme

Day 1

Guests are expected to arrive in the afternoon, after 2 PM. Pickup will be in Torre de Passeri

A meet-and-greet with all participants will be held at 7:30 PM, where you will be welcomed with a drink. Your tutor, Colleen, will provide an overview of the workshop content, introducing the various printmaking methods we will explore over the next six days. After a delicious dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas in preparation for your upcoming classes.

Day 2-7

Participants will learn the intricacies of Pronto Plate, discovering how to create prints using eco-friendly materials. Additionally, the course will cover cyanotype techniques to be applied to printmaking, enabling you to produce intricate designs and experiment with multiple layers in combination with Pronto Plate.

A highlight of the course is the opportunity to explore papermaking, learning to create your own paper from scratch and print directly onto your handmade sheets. You will then discover the art of bookbinding, bringing together your handmade paper and printed works to create unique artist books and personal book forms. Through hands-on workshops and guided projects, you’ll expand your technical repertoire and creative possibilities, experimenting with the interplay of print, paper, and book arts while developing your own artistic style. Whether you aim to push the boundaries of traditional printmaking or explore new creative avenues, this course offers an inspiring opportunity to experiment, learn, and take your artistic practice further.

On day four, a half-day excursion is planned to unwind and discover the beauties that Abruzzo has to offer.

Day 8

After breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, taking home new skills and lasting memories from this enriching experience.
